I feel this. I lived in California nearly my whole life and work from there now. Those Jacaranda trees bring me so much joy every year, messy as they are. Which makes them perfect. I've never noticed or witnessed them in France or Italy, but now I'll have to make a trip just for that.
I know you just moved. I thought for certain, though, you would conclude this piece by announcing you were moving to California to reclaim it as an adult. I was clearly wrong…
Paula, your magic are the words you choose to weave together as if to create a stunning painting. We are the lucky recipients of your magic and of your talent.
I know you just moved, but I thought for certain this by saying you were returning to claim California as an adult. Your magic are the words you weave together like a breathtaking portrait.
I’m burned out from getting my last book into the world: the writing, editing, book tour and the interest in turning it into a binge-worthy series. I keep thinking I need to snap out of it and get serious about writing the next book, but my usual Type A self is not responding. And then you write of renting a cottage near the beach in Montecito, and my soul responds as though you’re speaking a familiar language—a soothing native tongue I hear only in my memories. I think you’ve given me permission to find my way there or someplace similar and drink in the much needed beauty of restoration. Thank you. xoxox,
“The tulle fog” - perfect image. I’ve always tried to explain why traveling for work isn’t the same as traveling for pleasure. But here, you aren’t traveling. You’re coming home. And that makes all the difference.
I love your writing. I also am glad you’re taking time to chill.
❤️
Ah, the landscapes of the heart. Love, Jenni xxxxx

Right? They will never, ever get old.
Your writing always pulls me in and delights me. It’s vital to take excellent care of ourselves.

You’ve created lovely visuals for us to understand. Thank you for sharing!
